TORONTO RETAIL MUSIC STARTUP ANNOUNCES LONG & McQUADE PARTNERSHIP
Field platform gets local music played in local businesses with new streaming platform.
Toronto, February 7, 2018 - Field provides businesses with a music streaming platform similar to others they have seen — except for a couple of differences. Unlike mainstream platforms, the music featured is only from independent Ontario artists who directly upload their releases, and receive better wages. And unlike mainstream platforms, business owners are legally allowed to play the music in their stores, coffee shops or other ventures.
After unveiling partnerships with local labels like Bedroomer, Field is pleased to announce that it has received key support from music retail institution Long & McQuade to help local independent musicians. The next 100 musicians who submit music to Field will receive a 10$ gift card courtesy of the legendary music chain, present in over 80 locations across Canada.
Field founder Henry Goury-Laffont explains: “We noticed that the meteoric rise of music streaming has extended to the retail, food and beverages spaces, where folks are often playing music off their phones as they would at home. We draw two conclusions from this: first, streaming is here to stay, and second, we need better solutions to support everyone involved in this process — from local musicians and music licensing organizations to the businesses playing music. With a focus on innovation, and local support, our collaboration with Long & McQuade, Canada’s most trusted and up to date music retailer, is a natural fit.”
Having licensed over 500 Ontario-made songs in under two months, Field is creating genuine change in an aging background music industry:
- Field makes it easier for businesses to support local music, and gives them a new way to create relationships with their local customers and their communities.
- Field is fully digital, and lets businesses use curated playlists or create their own; it also allows independent musicians access to a previously inaccessible licensing space.
- Field makes businesses compliant. Field works with SOCAN to pay all required licensing fees and helps businesses respect all required regulations without raising their costs.
- Field provides value for musicians and businesses. By working with independents. Field is able to lower costs for businesses while paying artists better rates than consumer streaming.
